Flushing Fear|Storyboard (Illustrator/Designer)

Fear comes from within. When you fight back you discover the reality you are living in was not as terrifying as you thought. You discover a part of yourself that is stronger than you realized. We wanted to show a sanctuary of the mind, the bathroom, that is filled with fear in the beginning. Throughout our sequence, the fear grows and consumes the bathroom. Finally, light breaks into the room and conquers the fear, allowing the scene to break free from the fears and find peace.

Background

Why a Bathroom?

Bathrooms are a place of vulnerability.
Represents the vulnerable state we are in when we are scared. Bathrooms are a place of relaxation.
Represents the peace after overcoming fear

Storyboard

A single drop falls and represents the start of fear. It hits the sink and the fear takes over the room. This represents how fear can be overwhelming. The environment changes and fear stares at the viewer. However, you can always fight fear. The fear goes back into the sink leaving behind a normal bathroom. Fear always is there, but it also can always be defeated

C4D and Cel Animation

We wanted to test the idea of combing two forms of media. Cell animation and Cinema 4D seemed the perfect combination to represent what is going on in your head verses what is going on in reality.  In the end the bathroom is clean, and light shines through with no Illustrative fear in sight.

Light Progression

As the fear is conquered gradually through the night daybreak hits. Fear is completely gone by sunrise.

Illustration

We wanted the illustration to represent fear and the unreal. Instead of making something gruesome we wanted to use beautiful colors in a creepy way. The viewer can look at the sequence without turning away, but still understand the emotion coming across.

C4D References

We wanted to use cinema 4d to make the lighting and the textures of the bathroom. The lighting to start off at night and then progress to day. The textures to be centered on ceramics and metallics.
